In the Fall of 1918, Emmy Noether completed a manuscript on the invariant variational problems which was published immediately in the Göttinger Nachrichten. This fundamental paper, motivated by  the problem of conservation of energy in Einstein's general theory of relativity, established the link between symmetries and conservation laws for variational problems in complete generality. It had, and still has, an enormous influence in all domains of physics, classical as well as quantum. We wish to celebrate the centenary of this remarkable paper with several lectures that will present the context of Noether's article as well as some of the numerous applications of her two theorems in contemporary mathematics and physics.
